Another MS Monday

I began feeling doomed from the start this morning. Our packing slip printer is a Lexmark 2381 for the AS400. The guy who normally troubleshoots this was out sick this morning and the AS400 expert is in Seattle this week. It was screwed up with all the lights flashing. So I turn it off and reset it. No good. I was printing wide and low. So I figured out how to set the top of form and tear off levels but not the width. So I call the guy at his home and he tells me to lock it on the 10 pitch. I guess I should have just tried all the pitch levels because he was wrong… it was 12. Needless to say he come in looking pissed as ever. Now that I have figured how to set the form levels I watched him wrestle with this again since we changed the pitch to 12, I feel that I have a better grasp on how to do this than he. Better… it’s my job to.

The MS Monday didn’t stop there. No FAXing could go through to Canada nor India today. Not one! I changed the old phone cord and got rid of some old crappy do-hickeys for line protection and splitters. Didn’t help. Tried on a different FAX; no good.

Talked with Linksys about the Win98SE box not connecting prior to logging in. I was thinking it might be the SSID beacon being turned off, but that wasn’t it. They want me to test without WEP next. Not exactly where I want to go since that is why I got rid of the Orinoco AP.

Week End

The Wifi saga had another story to tell. The WEP security did lock out the Orinoco clients. I guess I should have thoroughly checked it out. I got a call Wednesday morning with complaints of not getting access. Not much I can do while at home shaving! So when I got in I had swapped him with the D-Link card. All is well with him now. Next is the far back users… he is using a Linksys card but Windows 98. After switching to WEP, I again failed to follow through and reboot his to test. Now his card doesn’t authenticate until after logging in. So he can’t authenticate with the domain server and map network drives until after the initial logging in. I still need to do some research. So I wanted to improve the signal strength by using a booster. Low and behold… Linksys doesn’t sell the signal booster any longer due to FCC restrictions. The remainder of them were pulled off the retail shelves probably two months ago. :( The good thing is we have two! Since we ended up hooking up our bridge outside the buildings, both were not needed. This did increase the signal strength indeed by about 25%. Unfortunately it didn’t help the Win98 login issue.

Well with the increase in spam these days, I decided to reevaluate the spamassassin scores. I have dropped the high filter from 8 to 6 and the minimum filter from 5 to 4. Also found some settings to enhance the RBL blacklists. Changing this from 5 to 2 will create a better hit and deny more of them at the door.

More phone troubles. Been getting lots of calls that lag at the start of the conversation and causing the receptionists to hang up on ppl too fast. They are trained to wait longer however now but now we need to figure out what it’s coming from. We have 8 lines and it seems to be happening just on our main line for incoming calls. Learning more about our phone system almost daily now!

Seems to have been a rather slow week in some ways here at work. Got time to answer some backlog in the Gallery forums. This brought my status back up to #8 but not by much; something like a 7 post lead over #9.

Got to meet with both mentors this week for lunch! Even got a call from the men’s mentor ministry leader Wednesday night! It sure is wonderful to have great friends watching out for me. Laying all my troubles out for them on the table seems to help tremendously. Some troubles just can’t be fought alone. Having a group of friends praying for you helps fend off the evil one. On the flip side I find that I am not alone when it comes to the same kinds of struggles. Nothing worse than getting advice from someone who hasn’t been in your shoes before. This new toolbox is going to help me help others.

WAP Final Blow?

In a second attempt to establish a secure connection to our original Orinoco wireless network yesterday afternoon, I made some advancements but one fatal blow had to be thwarted. The fact this AP1000 is rather ancient from 2001 era, its technology was pretty proprietary. Only other Orinoco clients would be able to connect if I enabled WEP security. I don’t know everything about HEX key security, but Orinoco seems to think one can just convert a passphrase by hand with their key code chart provided in the help documents!?! Okay so provided I used this, all is fine with other Orinoco cards but no way to fake this with a Liksys card which IMO uses true HEX security. Using the same passphrase and automatically generating the 26 character HEX does not even come close to what Orinoco would have you use. Even if I manually enter the Orinoco version… no go. So what do ya do? Replace it with a WAP11 running for $70 now! So I had a shop guy hoist me up in a cage to access the old chrome dust infested AP and replaced it with the WAP11. Even the Orinoco clients can connect to this with WEP enabled! Just need to enter the 26 character HEX manually is all. Unfortunately the furthest user continues to have 48% power. So my next plan is to find a booster which is what we already have on the other wireless network at both ends.

First thing this morning I thought it was going to be a printer hell day. First the wife of my boss calls with problems printing on their all-in-one HP printer. Seems that it just needed a reboot. I’m wondering if she thinks logging out is the same as a reboot. So now I think I may have found a better solution… but not as effective if ignored. I changed the Windows updates to download but prompt for installation rather than install automatically. I’m guessing that it installs and requires a reboot that in was not prompting for when nobody was logged in. So I guess as long as they don’t simply ignore the requests now. Time will tell. Secondly the boss calls just as I hang up with his wife with printer problems. It was printing only the header of the emails and stopping without ejecting the remainder of the page. Who knows! I do a power cycle there and run a print test.

While out running errands today when I picked up that AP, I also picked up a card reader for the boss. He wanted me to pick up the card reader from his home office while out at that end of town. So anyway it was nice to have it work without using the CD to install it. I just needed to run through showing him how to send photos as attachments through email.

Got my receipt for an upcoming Security Conference! This will surly be fun. I will get to see some of my old instructors from my CAD days out there at the college. I was grateful to know that the boss is all for extending my knowledge in security issues. I had no resistance what so ever in selling this to him in getting his approval. This conference will primarily be a Microsoft solution style but… several of us from the Linux community have banded together to come to this. To date we are not a part of their speaker/seminars, but who knows, they may have some sort of open forum discussion to attend. I ordered a couple shirts to wear during this too. Nothing offensive. Just a Tux patch on one and a work shirt with a “31337″ patch. Surly to loose enough there I’m sure! Rocky had the first Security Conference a few years ago I helped out with and we had quite the turnout. Wanted to have Kevin Mitnick come but he was a bit out of their budget. However they did get Marty Roesch, the father of Snort and Kevin Fenzie a well known security consultant from Colorado based Tummy.com. Not to mention several local computer guys in the area.

The Pain of Conviction

The Men’s Mentoring Ministry meeting went off last night. Got out about 10PM. Made for a long evening spent at the church with the normal Wednesday night service before that. I mentioned what I guessed the meeting would be like yesterday. I wasn’t too far off! What I feared most was that we’d all be lined up and those in the known click crowd would be team members and hand pick from those on the wall for teammates. But as I had guessed it… the place was packed with very ambitious guys wanting to disciple and mentor. That is awesome you know! A rather large number on hand were very open about speaking out and even against some ideas. Today I (as one who didn’t speak up) emailed the leader of the ministry my thoughts and suggestions. As I am already a part of a couple mentoring groups wasn’t looking for more ppl. I wanted more resource information and training opportunities. The outcome of this meeting has possibly opened my accountability partners eyes to a real need for commitment in getting together. We both suffer sins of the flesh yet need mentors ourselves.

The home PC is still not working in Windows. I had gone into safe mode and removed the hotfix driver and the hardware device listing. Again… in normal mode it detected the device and installs it. Up to the install everything runs fine, but after it’s installed it crawls again. Checking the BIOS I only have the option of PCI or AGP as the video selection. Oddly I did notice the on-board NIC was enabled which I changed, as well as sound was disabled!?! Sound was never a problem however and to the best of my knowledge the change made no difference. So I’m running out of plans. I guess next I just need to go with the flow. You know… “can’t beat ‘em, join ‘em”. Well I will try deleting the Matrox driver and keep the Intel installed or just dump them both. Then try reinstalling the Matrox drivers later. Currently the display properties do show that it is using the Matrox drivers. My guess is that a shared library got overwritten.

Got some progress out of the QC wireless today! Found a driver and firmware update available. The new config utility works great and easier to get around in. Only one problem and that is it’s a bit slower in bringing up the network. But hey, it beats having to set the WEP password every boot.

This week must have had a hex put over the DLT tape backup unit. Friday one workstation was turned off by mistake. Monday the boss turned his PC off. Tuesday had a tape failure. Wednesday I accidentally left the tape cleaner in the drive. However I was able to remember that type of error will start the job the moment it gets a writable tape and so I had the correct tape in for Wednesday. Tonight will prove the broken spell. I should ping the bosses PC since he left on vacation…

Yet another virus out this afternoon! ClamAV calls it Worm.SomeFool, Symantec coins it W32.Netsky.B@mm. So far we have had only four.

This afternoon I offered a suggestion to the church IT manager. Currently the sermons online are in the RealAudio format. It is also packaged as a streaming method. I mentioned that several ppl have asked me how to download them. This proves to be a much larger task for them than they expected. View the ram file for the actual URL and wget the ra file to your disk. Then I run a vplayer command that plays it through RealAudio to a wav file, then I use that to burn an audio CD. What’s so hard about that? :D So I suggested offering a couple quality versions of a mp3 format. He took the bate! So now he wants me to draw up a plan for the transition. We don’t want to scare the folks already used to this system at hand. Cool, then we could measure the stats to see what ppl like. Now if I could figure how to incorporate using Linux to do this from home. Time to think about this now.

More Hodge Podge Topics

Not a good start this morning. Didn’t even finish shaving this morning before my computer trouble found me! Kassie had trouble booting up the home PC. We have a Dell 2350 with a 15″ flat panel and a add in NIC and add in graphics card. Sometimes that on-board stuff is just crap! The on-board video couldn’t handle high end colors and resolution even in Windows. The on-board NIC kept freaking out in Linux causing me to restart the network to repair. All that got very tiring. So I looked at the Windows updates manually last night and saw a video driver was available. Installed and reboot… into Linux then and wrote yesterdays post and shutdown for the evening. So this morning as Kassie boots up, Windows sat at a black screen. I remove the driver in safe mode but upon entering normal mode again it reinstalled and instantly brought the PC to a crawl. 10 to 8AM and I just couldn’t wait to fix it. So no games for the kids today. However Linux is running just fine. Kassie hadn’t been in her profile for quite some time now. But I did see she had done some emailings. So this evening maybe I can get to that turtle and rip out the hotfix. If not then I’ll have to just reinstall the other drivers once again to override it.

Today at work… The banner ad cleanup seems to be working fair. Nobody has come complaining to me yet. I have seen a few blank spots on pages where the ad should have been but some of these folks need about a week to figure that something was wrong.

Looks like I’m going to get bumped down to #9 in the Gallery forum. Paour is firing off messages like a mad man! He has just released a major release for the Gallery Remote and of course, the trouble tickets come roaring in. I haven’t been in that arena for a bit. My last glitches were proven to be too much for me to debug with him.

I got on an online chat panel with Linksys this afternoon. Trying to troubleshoot the dang wireless access point. This gal didn’t provide a lick of knowledge on the the topic. All she could offer is restart the AP. Or can you ping it? I ended up changing it to use no WEP and it works. I did find that the authentication method had to be set to “both” as in open and (I assume) shared. Seems setting it to either one of those would not work. In that event of turning off WEP I had to re-enter the new keys and noticed key one was different. I should have known. Some how it was buggered up and that was probably it. But as usual around here… nothing ever goes without something else breaking. The QC dept. PC now connects to the secure AP but not after a reboot. So in attempts to go back to the insecure AP I can not get it to connect there at all now. I wrote a note to leave the PC powered one with it working on the secure network. Another priority job to tackle I guess.

The boss is leaving again tomorrow so I need to sync up his “My Documents”. This proves to be a slow and tedious task. I tried using rsync but then I would need to mount both PC’s and that proved to be another stumbling block. Cant seem to mount the damn XP laptop! I’m sure I had this idea once before, but I don’t recall what part I stumbled on. Transferring via MS Networking between XP and 2000 also proves to be tedious. Seems MS had a patch that screwed up network performance.

I just might not get to the home PC. I have church this evening and then a mens mentoring meeting afterword. That should be odd. Guys can’t do much before the comfort level increases. I have a feeling the place will be packed with guys who want to mentor rather be mentored. Well we all need some level of mentoring… it’s just a matter of pride I guess.

Who’s DOSing Me Now?

Finally getting around to posting today. Was meaning to do all kinds of things the past couple days but time keeps slipping by.

Loading up my usual tabs in Mozilla, I noticed my family photo gallery site was running rather slow. Then I notice that there was 8 guests on the site! My poor little server! The load was rather low tho around 0.37 at times. It was my upload on the cable modem that was the bottleneck. Turns out that some web forum was on to a couple of my photos of the World Trade Center and Baghdad. They were not my photos for sure… I had run into them while carousing through someone’s FTP site. One is 14MB and the other is 16MB. The density of the 14MB photo of the WTC is rather packed. It takes a good CPU to process this size of image. So this forum post was mostly about how their computers either gulped it up or died in the process. Some did complain about how slow it was not really knowing it was from a cable modem. They wrote it off to all of them hitting at once. There was easier ways of finding who the referrence was but I just noticed a ref when I was tailing the access log. So I jumped on their forum and posted a question as to “where the heck did you find these photos?” The poster responded that he noticed it from another forum. They were all rather nice folks… a DSL forum from the UK. The easier less fun way I found the original forum was form the httprefs log from the PostNuke CMS I use. This turns out less posts but more hits. Actually I should recalculate. The second forum seemed to pop in with several different ref pages so I would have to say today’s did make a bigger presence. The first forum hits came yesterday. I didn’t even notice. The fun part was that I discover that the guy who posted the original post yesterday happens to live here in Billings! Now I did show this at our last LUG meeting in January or maybe December. This guy had a birthday on January 14th turning 18. I only know one guy who could have been there but it seemed rather strange from the quality of his posts. Seemed to be Windows type questions and this guy is a hard core Linux guy. So I hesitate to place my bets on him. Will have to update later.

This same guy showed us a cool thing to do with SAMBA clients; smbclient -M . I was going to email him to ask what that was but another friend I had been talking with for most of the day via ysm (ICQ) informed me. What this does after executing the command is lets you type a message then ctrl-d to end and send to a Windows PC. So I popped one off to our receptionist and said “I know what you did last summer!” She immediately ran over knowing it was me since it does say who it was from. She thought it was pretty funny. So I sent the same to our backup receptionist only I added “All your bases are belong to us!” She didn’t respond much to that. However after I confessed, our receptionist remembered that phrase when they both started work there. I sent a couple test faxes to our main fax machine via fax software. The former receptionist seemed a little frazzled so I didn’t want to freak them out too bad. Anyway the receptionist caught onto it and I fessed up to that. So now they probably think I’m really some kind of hack prankster.

Earlier in the day I had been bouncing back and forth between a few projects that for the life of me don’t know what kept me going back and forth. I was troubleshooting that Quickbooks deal and trying to get the wireless connection on the secure AP working. Also trying to get this Orinoco antennae converted to use a SMA connector. I first needed to figure which of the hundreds of connectors I needed. Not sure that will be too easy since I’m sure it will require a special order and some way to crimp it. I think I’ll just get another Linksys card. They seem to have bigger antennae. The Quickbooks deal may be at an end sadly. The install to my bosses laptop failed too. So this means the data is messed up. So unless I can get it wittled down to something like the last 6 months of data, I don’t know if I can help much. However I did find that a new CD for his broken 2003 version could be replaced for $20. I also found some error logs that showed more detail about what errors were repaired during the upgrade. None however show failed attempts to fix the data. Like most of the day went, this paragraph is depicting how I bounced around so much. The wireless AP WEP I had been using before was incomplete. I am male! It was right in from of me when I wrote it down the first time. The dang thing was word wrapped! Who would ever think they would word wrap a 26 double digit form box screen? Linksys.

Well it seems another new virus hit today. Got the first couple form the Boulder LUG list then later they started coming into the company system. Our scanner calls it Worm.YoursID but Symantec calls it by several names W32.Beagle.B@mm mainly. This one seems rather wicked for forging addresses like I have ever seen so not sure what it’s purpose is yet. My guess is that this one was poorly written because they have less random points. You can ban about 4 domains and a handful of known attachments.

Our ISP OneEighty Communications has had major problems with their service since yesterday. When I called, they seemed to have an idea of what it might be and were on it. Today they had no clue yet. I was going to be bummed if I couldn’t post today! Anyway they seem to have it under control now just before noon. Almost seems faster than before too.

Now the QC wireless isn’t connecting properly. I’m thinking it might be an incompatibility issue. Looking into the driver/firmware versions. So It can still connect to the farther but open AP.

First thing this morning at work I had two users with no connection to the AS-400. I used to see this once in a while and just had to recreate their profile for the connection. Luckily I didn’t forget to try that and it worked fine for both. Seems to have been sparked by some administrative duties my coworker was performing to eliminate extra sessions that were laying around. Will have to keep that in mind next time it happens.

Got the dual VCR/DVD unit set up at home now. Haven’t tested any media out yet but was just configuring it for channels and date/time. Seems that it can get the date/time automatically via broadcast from local channels. It didn’t set over night so I just set it manually this morning.

Put the UPS in-line. Seems that one of my plugs on the wall is a little loose and the battery kept kicking in so I moved it to the bottom plug and all is well. Must be a short. Also played with the Seagate tape drive. I recalled working on it once before. Seems that it fails to turn the tape. The only tape motion is by the rubber wheels tugging it but who knows. I’m going to check if they might repair it for a descent price. They are worth about $150. Who knows, maybe I’ll buy it from the company for my home server.

Wow the USA Digital techs came already this morning to pick up their antennae. I think they planned to take their modem as well but I got the manager trained well to call me about everything. I told them to hold off taking it because I wanted to investigate the possibility that they may have taken ours during one of many service calls.

MAC Mystery

Yes the possessed IBM PC is back. I’m working on it’s replacement as I type. It continues to freeze up on boot up. Never fails that after fixing this some other problem occurs. This time it was a network issue. The MAC address security between the two access points seemed to be missing this IBM’s MAC address. Which was fine by me I guess because it wasn’t supposed to work in the first place! I first thought that this NIC had some how changed it’s address. I have seen this happen before but only by one character… this was the complete address. Anyway adding the MAC to the second AP did the trick. I need to check for updates on their firmware I guess. That goes for my other wireless network as well. I had trouble with enabling the encryption on that. It still runs open!

On the M2M front… my coworker and I have been waiting for the right time to ask the boss about the upcoming conference in Las Vegas this June. Interestingly enough today the boss forwarded the email about the conference to both of us. I think this might be some type of praise! Yesterday ADS called the boss trying to win us back I suppose. Not sure what he said, but the boss transferred him to me. The impression I got was that he and my boss have “made arrangements” to talk with each other at a later date. So I’m not too sure why he needed to talk with me. I didn’t offer any information as to our dropping them. Seems they only pay attention to us when there’s money to be had anyway. I sure hope that dance is over!

It seems one of our Mormon coworkers is now leaving this week. I am happy for them but sad they (he and his family) are leaving. I had taped some informative Mormon beliefs videos for him some time ago. They are rather new to their faith and passionate about God. I have concluded they have no idea what they are getting into and had to step forward. They didn’t have much to loose if they were to step away from them. No family ties or works involvement yet. So when he broke the news to me yesterday, I pleaded with him to watch the videos. I had lent him my flight stick and a couple old PC games. I told him he could have them under the condition they would watch the videos. That reminds me… I was thinking in bed last night that I should pick up the book “Purpose Driven Life” for them before the week is over. Another condition for them to read it after watching the videos. You never know who God may put in your path, but I’m getting the hint that you’ve got to work fast these days before the opportunity passes. We had two Jehovah Witness gals come to work here and I don’t think I said enough if not at all about His Word. I did a little with one, but her interests didn’t bring out any questions. She was the stronger of the two if that means anything.

Went out for dinner with the family and some friends. They bought dinner. Didn’t want them to. They have financial struggles as we do. Was nice of them to do so. Got lots of cards and the wife and kids got me a nice T-shirt. My folks send my money and my mom’s old coat she didn’t like any more. I needed one. It smells nice like my mom! It’ll take a while to get used to the color. I don’t think I own anything yellow. Waited up watching TV just in case the folks called. I guess I slipped by them for a change. Then again I hope it wasn’t pay back time. It seems that I have forgotten a time or two birthdays. I really need to get an automated reminder scheduler going. I think my uncle got his going because two of his sons emailed me. Today my cousin Brad from the Navy wished me a happy birthday. That was nice. Wish I could have gotten to know him better as a kid. He was born about 10 years late for the group. Of course they moved often and made it hard to keep up. He’s a good kid. I wish him the best out there on the boat.

Well it seems I can’t get the dang firmware upgraded on the AP’s. The screen spins into infinity and refreshing the front screen shows the old version still. Been working on Symantecs AMS service. I had taken a stab at this some time ago to no avail. Seems it may be once again. Did make some progress however. So now to deliver the PC to Building B tomorrow.

A Weeks Worth

What a busy week! Just now got a chance to begin posting this weeks goings on. On Monday I got the call to fix the CNC shop server. Coincidentally the power supply was discovered dead the same day Bresnan was to come in and install their Internet service. Luckily I already had a power supply from a clone of the same PC I had refurbished last year. Plus I grabbed some RAM for this. Although it only recognized half of it’s capacity, I installed 256 to get 128 out of it. Oh well… it won’t be in service too long. It only had 32MB previously, so still much farther ahead. Bresnan was amazed at what they’d have to do to get their service into the building. Being so tall and on the opposite side of it’s destination. They ended up doing what I had suggested even! Crossing the ally two times and enter through the phone conduit. They got it running and we’re happy with the speeds so far!

Tuesday through Thursday I spent troubleshooting the AS400 connection going to our second “Building B”. They manufacture shipping containers there for exporting. So they have one node over there to our main office. Coincidentally when they have trouble we have trouble with our packing slip printer. The beauty of serial networked connections. I think it’s called twin-ax? So I spent most of my time building a PC from old parts to connect the modern way. Last summer I installed a wireless connection between the buildings using two access points with boosters mounted inside PVC boxes outside both buildings. Started with putting Windows 2000 on this PII 300MHz box using a Dell by proxy. You see we only had it on a restore CD so… well we won’t get into that here okay. Anyway… plopping the HD back into the destination box and booting up, it freezes during boot up. So I figured there must have been some difference with the HD parameters between the two boxes. I then put it back into the Dell and installed Windows 98 but this time putting in in the Dell just for speed. Again back in the other box it freezes but only after some new devices are installed. I discovered something was corrupting the registery. This was fixed by removing some of the Windows updates and skipping the loading of the registry. I get into Windows and reinstall the updates. This seems to smooth out the flawed registry! You would think it was smooth sailing after this, but then I get keyboard problems. Switching keyboards doesn’t help. Some combination of removing the keyboard and booting, failing, rebooting with keyboard does the trick. BTW this is an old IBM tower. Okay so once in the Building B more troubles including boot failures, bad monitor and tight network security. Geez Louise! Needless to say I am working on a different, hopefully not so possessed PC for them. For the time being they are running.

On and off through the week I have had to attempt getting another PC for our QC dept. It has been ready for them for weeks but was just waiting for the chance for them to accept it. They have been too busy to let me set it up that is. Two troubles cropped up here. Wireless network and COM1 problems with some ancient DOS application. As of yesterday I have gotten the COM port working but now have software problems… possibly OS incompatibility. I need to call to find out and then maybe just upgrade! For now I have two wireless networks for him to choose from: one is secure and the other is open but farther away. Yeah yeah… it’s open! Working on it! So the secure AP is closer but seems that every time this exterior door opens I loose connection. Strange but also I’m not getting DHCP to move through either. Seems to be working fine for the mentioned IBM box in the Building B warehouse. For the time being it’s just using the farther but open AP.

Made2Manage sent their customization consultant Wednesday and Thursday. I feel it was a good visit. However my co heart data analyst seems to be showing truer colors now. I am suspecting she is contributing to some failure in the process of our migration. At times the boss wants to just fork out the money to get this show rolling but she consistently steps in and makes show stopping issues and then blames it on money. Next would be the training issues. These ppl have been trained over 2 and a half years ago and have had a bad experience during this training due to technical difficulties. I had a ton of training a couple summers ago and a lot has changed to that point even. My experience was rather smooth. Problem is we have some flunkies that can’t handle being in a class scenario where you have to pay attention and try to lean something new. We also have such a flexible system now that they don’t want to tie themselves down to one way of doing things. There is a pride issue at play too. Our way is the only way! What does it hurt to see how others in the industry are doing things? Then of course nobody wants to be doing it the M2M way because it’s their way and not any one way. Our ppl don’t want to learn with some bogus test company. They want to train with our own part numbers. Waah Waah! A bunch of whining basket cases. I say model with the damn test company data, learn what works and doesn’t, customize and then maybe model again with our data. It’s all very time consuming and may require hiring a consultant to model with, but we’d be moving forward. We’re into something like our third year migrating!

Tonight will be a fun one! Our babysitter finally called last night to agree to watch the kids this evening. We were wondering if she was avoiding us. Anyway our community group will be rehearsing for this weekends sermons at church. One of the pastors asked if we would do a skit for all four services. It’s probably only for the first few minutes of the services. I chose to take care of the kids early on so not to worry about what to do with them. I wanted Kassie to do the skit because she used to do this stuff in high school drama class/club. She needed to get more involved in the group anyway. She has taken care of the kids too many other times like this. Then after the rehearsal we head to our normal biweekly community group meeting. Our community group has a passion for serving. So many of us do little things for the church and community, I feel that the church picks on us to be examples. This is our second group we have joined. The first was with an older group but we were there because our mentors were apprenticing with them. They moved to Laurel and thus giving up leading a group so we needed to get with a group more of our age and with kids. We are still a bit younger than most and so are our kids but we are getting some younger. We have sort of a love/hate feeling about our group too. We hate making preparations to go but love the fact that we did go. I keep thinking it’ll get better but I really should expect it to get worse. You see Satan attacks you most when he sees that you are getting out of his grasp. How’s that for making sense? I have to share one quote from someone I chat with often. He has a major lacking of moral values and he was getting upset with me for my lack of political involvement. He wrote “I encourage you to get involved with me in politics… because I think it has more of an impact on people than a church visit every Sunday.” You draw your own conclusion. I chose to ignore what he said. At that moment I couldn’t respond while my blood pressure was cooking. The truth of the matter is that what he says may have an immediate point but my purpose is not for my future life but goes much further than that. I choose to do the things in my temporary life for eternities sake not just the here and now.

I had a nice surprise yesterday. One of my mentors called for lunch unplanned. I just so happened to be available. This week was so busy that I hadn’t had time to eat much but to work during the chow. I let him know about how I was feeling down from the previous Thursday morning with my accountability partners news. I was happy to hear that I wasn’t far off key for feeling this way. He too thought it was not a very cool thing. I’m so happy that he is always honest with giving it to me straight. I informed him about how God has been so good to us over the past couple months. Not that he never is… it’s just that we have grown to put such faith in God and he has shown faith in us.
